It is also the 25th anniversary of the Cadí-Moixeró gondola lift, which allowed the union of the two resorts and offered 145 km of skiable area, one of the largest in Europe.
La Molina and Masella dressed up this Monday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Alp2500, the joint ski area that connects both resorts, and the Cadí-Moixeró gondola. The celebration brought together thousands of people who enjoyed a day full of activities for all ages. The culminating moment of the celebration came in the afternoon, with a spectacular simultaneous torchlight descent from both resorts, with the participation of 2,500 people.
The descent from La Molina, a resort managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), began at the top of La Tosa, while the skiers from Masella did so from the highest point of the La Tosa ski lifts. The participants covered distances of more than 900 meters until they reached the bases of the two resorts, where fireworks could be seen. During the day, there were also other activities such as a musical vermouth at the two resorts, concerts and special afternoon programs by RAC105 and FlaixBack, from La Molina and Masella, respectively. In the evening, an institutional event was held, with a concert, at the Palau de Congressos d’Alp.
The president of Ferrocarrils, Carles Ruiz Novella, who watched the torchlight procession from the Plaça de Cap de Comella in La Molina, highlighted: “We were the first ski area in Spain, also pioneers in the public-private collaboration of a ski area and we are creating a space with a lot of potential for ski and mountain lovers”. “We have a commitment to the territory and that is why we are moving towards a 365 model of mountain resorts, that is, offering activities every day of the year”, he added.
For the president of Masella, Xavier Nolla Varela, the future challenges of Alp2500 are “to diversify the activities, to have an offer in both summer and winter, just as La Molina, which is a leader in mountain activities in summer, already does, and to continue investing in the union of the two stations to maintain competitiveness in relation to the competition”.
Coinciding with the torchlight descent, La Molina has premiered a spectacular video mapping on the Pista Estadi. The proposal can also be seen tomorrow, Tuesday, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., coinciding with the New Year's bells, and on January 1, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will also be a special edition on Epiphany in the Pista Llarga area, coinciding with the arrival of their majesties the Three Wise Men from the East.
25 years of shared history and 145 skiable kilometers
The anniversary of Alp2500 and the Cadí-Moixeró gondola lift was a great snow festival that served to remember the importance of this ski area for the Catalan Pyrenees and its projection into the future. The Alp2500 domain is one of the main references for skiing in the Catalan Pyrenees, a connection that represented a significant advance in the snow sports proposal in the territory. Its offer is a claim for both snow lovers and those looking to enjoy nature, the landscape and outdoor sports.
La Molina, founded in 1943, is one of the oldest ski resorts in Spain. Pioneer in the implementation of mechanical ski lifts, with the Fontcanaleta ski lift in 1943, it has been synonymous with tradition and innovation in skiing. It is a benchmark in the training and promotion of winter sports and the host of major international events.
Masella, for its part, inaugurated in 1967, is known for its long slopes, which wind their way along the spectacular northern slope of La Tosa, and for an environment that combines tradition with modernity with such innovative bets as night skiing that, over the years, has become established as a complementary bet to day skiing.
In 1999, the historic connection between La Molina and Masella was inaugurated via the Cadí-Moixeró Gondola. This installation marked the beginning of the Alp2500 joint domain, which today is consolidated as one of the most extensive skiable surfaces in the Iberian Peninsula, with 131 slopes, 33 lifts and a total of 145 skiable kilometers.
Spectacular views from the Pic de la Tosa
The Cadí-Moixeró cable car is the reference mechanical ski lift of the La Molina mountain station and provides access to the highest point of the station: the Niu de l'Àliga refuge and the Pic de La Tosa, at 2,537 m above sea level.
The cable car, with a length of 3,781 meters and a vertical drop of 870 meters, has a transport capacity of 1,600 people/hour. This lift not only facilitates access to the slopes but also allows you to enjoy a unique panoramic experience and, at the same time, is the gateway to the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park.
